A
native of England, George W. Pettit resided in Philadelphia,
where
he exhibited portraits and figure studies at the Pennsylvania Academy
of
the Fine Arts intermittently between 1862 and 1887. He was made an
associate
of the Academy in 1863 and an academician in 1869. He also exhibited
with
the Art Club of Philadelphia in 1897 and 1899 and at the National
Academy
